We kick on with the latest addition to the ZakopaneGO Travelbloggers team with Martyna, a student with a passion for travel, member of the vetaretus6 travel bloggers crew, focusing on exchange years and studying abroad. Now we get a lot of exchange students visiting Zakopane, it’s one of those towns in Poland that’s a hotspot for anyone from the Erasmus programme in particular. Martyna, it’s a massive pleasure to have you join us. Tell the young travellers out there a bit about yourself.

Hi Everyone! I’m Martyna. I live in Gießen, a small city in Western Germany. I’m also a student of an international master program here. I love travelling around Europe, discovering forgotten places, especially in the mountains. My favorite itineraries are France, Italy and Austria.

People drop their routines and board the next flight all over the world nowadays. It’s a natural instinct. What motivated you to go out and see the world?

I guess I am just way too curious.

As a travel blogger, you know how globetrotting can change a person’s life and open them up to new cultures, perspectives and experiences. What made you choose Zakopane as one of your pit-stops?

My love for mountains and hiking. Basically all my friends who share my passion that visited Zakopane totally recommended the region. Many of them say the place is underrated. Obviously, it is a tourist destination, but still mostly for Polish visitors, not so popular abroad.

You’re so right there! Zakopane remains in the shadows of the major European resorts, a bit of a hidden gem, known mostly as a winter destination for the skiers and boarders looking for some fresh powder. What time of the year did you visit and why?

I visited Zakopane in winter, because I love hiking in the snow. The view from the top of Kasprowy Wierch in the direction of Rysy is also something that stays with you forever. It’s definitely worth a hike.

Where did you stay and how would you rate the facilities?

I stayed in “Willa u Anusia”. I got a very cozy apartment; it was fresh, clean and had really a nice balcony with marvelous view and a parking place. I can definitely recommend the place.

Five stars for the accommodation! So fresh and so clean, Outkast had to stop short of dedicating their song. Highlight of your trip?

Gubałówka, Kasprowy Wierch, Czarny Staw.

Czarny Staw is fairly unknown to the travellers, although our favourite lake. Anyone who’s seen it knows why, although Morskie Oko gets more publicity. Tell us, what in your opinion could the city improve on to enhance the experience of tourism in the area?

Better public transportation solution between suburbs and city center.

High five for that answer. We can’t stress enough the need for a better transport system and, in particular, a comprehensible bus schedule. At times, even locals feel like you need a degree in calculus to decipher that timetable. Your top travel tips for visiting the city/region?

Come with your own car. Try delicious local cuisine in Krupówki Street and get yourself some Oscypek with cranberries.

Always a favourite. Make sure you always get the real deal! Now, as soon as we mention food, I have to ask. Polish cuisine is something else. Tell us, your favourite dish?

Dumplings with sauerkraut and mushrooms.

Favourite beverage?

Compote.

Where’s next on your bucket-list?

Lienz, Tyrol.
